When you think of Ayurvedic-based skin care, you probably think of rich creams, scented oils, and dim homemade masks. After all, you should focus on the quality of the ingredients without worrying about their texture or aroma, right? No more. A range of Indian-owned skincare brands are challenging this notion and bringing the benefits of traditional ingredients to the table in cosmetically elegant formulas that will make you forget you’re putting neem, turmeric or ashwagandha on your face. It offers. However, most consumers still find such products outdated and the emergence of Ayurveda-backed Indian brands will help break this notion.

Discover five such brands on our radar in the future.

Gunam

The recently launched Gunam is a Kerala-based skincare brand founded by Elizabeth Isaac. Gunam, which means ‘good’ in Malayalam, offers a carefully selected range of products that are formulated in France using Ayurvedic ingredients. For example, the company’s Balance Face Cream is infused with Indian ingredients like neem, jasmine, turmeric, ashwagandha, saffron, and kokum butter, as well as skincare industry favorites like hyaluronic acid, squalane, and centella asiatica. The resulting moisturizer is lightweight and refreshing, with just a hint of neem to remind you that it’s an Ayurvedic product.

82 degrees east longitude

The new concept of putting Ayurvedic ingredients at the center of scientific formulations is most evident in 82°E, a skincare brand launched by actor Deepika Padukone in November 2022. Ingredients play a central role in the product name itself. Think Ashwagandha Bounce. Cream; Manjishta mud, clay mask. Licorice Beam, new sunscreen gel, etc. Of course, these ingredients are combined with well-known skin care ingredients like ceramides and bioflavonoids for a clean yet high-performance formula.

fable and mane

It’s not just Indian ingredients, but even age-old Indian rituals and traditions that the brand leverages. A case in point: Nikita and Akash Mehta, founders of Fable and Mane, have replaced the common Indian household habit of oiling and massaging hair with serums, oils, shampoos, and more. We have decided to incorporate it into a series of premium hair care products that include: The plant-based product features a powerful yet lightweight, non-greasy formula blended with Ayurvedic oils, herbs, and spices.

indie wild

Another brand that started with a focus on spreading the tradition ofchampi” and hair oils, Inde Wild’s products have grown to include skin care products formulated with long-lasting, effective formulas using India’s renowned ingredients. You might not expect a vitamin C serum to be made with turmeric and ashwagandha, but these two ingredients are the stars of the brand’s 15% Vitamin C AM Sunrise Glow Serum. Similarly, a newly launched viral lip treatment in India contains pomegranate, rose, and lotus and mimics the moisturizing properties of ghee in a vegan formula.

forest essentials

It may not be a new brand, but no list of Ayurvedic Indian skincare would be complete without Forest Essentials, one of the country’s oldest (founded in 2001) and most beloved beauty brands . Made with organic ingredients, this product offers all the benefits of Ayurvedic skin care in a more modern formula. The pink Advanced Eternal Youth Formula Date & Lychee contains date extract, lychee juice, sweet almond oil, and more to make it light yet nutritious. Ideal as a night cream for those with dull, dry skin.
