Albuquerque Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine is a local clinic specializing in the treatment of complex chronic conditions such as neurological disorders and autoimmune diseases. Dr. Andrea Brogdon leads the clinic and combines Chinese and Western medicine techniques to help patients heal. She said her goal is to bring hope to cases that seemed hopeless and help patients regain their lives.
KRQE’s New Mexico Living visited Dr. Brogdon’s clinic to talk about how she was able to turn people’s skepticism about the effectiveness of acupuncture into genuine belief. Ta.
“I think the reason people are skeptical is because they’ve tried complex surgeries, they’ve tried drugs, they’ve tried drugs and they haven’t worked. And they’ve tried non-invasive, downtime I wonder how something without can be transformative,” says Dr. Brogdon.
One of the main questions Dr. Brogdon receives about acupuncture is, “Does it hurt?” The doctor says: “My patients describe it as a slight pinching sensation, but I see patients with neuropathy. So they don’t feel the needle when we start the treatment. But when they feel that kind of pain, we do a little celebration and give them a high five. Because that means we were successful in reversing their symptoms.”
For Dr. Brogdon, seeing these results and helping patients improve their symptoms is why she does what she does. “Many of my patients like to say we are the last resort with the best results, but the reason I am doing this is because I am the first resort with the best results. “We want to be a means of achieving this,” says Dr. Brogdon.
One of Dr. Brogdon’s patients, Greg, wasn’t sure if acupuncture would actually reduce the symptoms of his neuropathy. But after just a few months of treatment, the results are already visible. His health hasn’t always been smooth sailing until he found Albuquerque Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine.
“I couldn’t walk very fast. I had to be careful because little things like stepping on a curb or off a curb would throw me off balance. Balance was a big problem,” says Greg. Greg tried to get help from a neurologist, but he was stuck, he said.
“I went to the neurologist, but I probably should have jumped off a cliff,” Greg says. “When I went to see him, he said, ‘You have a neuropathy. There’s nothing we can do. Let’s give you gabapentin for the pain.’ Well, gabapentin. It’s nothing but poison to me, so I have no intention of taking it.”
When Greg and his wife went out to dinner, he found a pamphlet with the words “neurological disorders” on it and picked it up, hoping to learn something. “I looked on the internet and couldn’t find anything reassuring in the conventional medical community,” says Greg. “We came to see her and she gave us a glimmer of hope.”
Since finding Dr. Brogdon, Greg said his symptoms have improved and his quality of life is much better than it was before he started treatment at Albuquerque Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine.
“I’m surprised. It’s very encouraging because there are benefits. Like I said, you’re not going to be 15, but you’re going to be a lot better than you were,” Greg says.
