U.S. Senator J.D. Vance, who was recently selected as the running mate for vice president by Donald Trump, has openly acknowledged the significant influence his wife, Usha Chirukuri Vance, had on his spiritual and personal growth. In an interview with Fox News, Senator Vance said that his faith journey is due to Usha’s Hindu faith, which has played a significant role despite him being raised in a Catholic household. Senator Vance, who was raised Christian but not baptized, shared insight into the role Usha played in his spiritual evolution and return to Christianity. The couple met while attending Yale Law School and formalized their marriage in 2014 with a dual ceremony in Kentucky. The wedding included a Western-style wedding and a separate Hindu ceremony officiated by a Hindu priest in honor of Usha’s cultural heritage. The couple have three children together: Euan, Vivek, and Mirabelle.

Recalling her upbringing in a Hindu household, Usha said it was the influence of her parents that played a supporting role in Vance’s spiritual journey. She emphasised the importance of open dialogue in raising children and underlined the common principles that guide family life despite diverse religious backgrounds.
In addition to being a supportive spouse, Usha Chirukuri Vance is also an attorney with an impressive academic and professional background. Originally from suburban San Diego, she earned her BA in History from Yale University in 2007.
She continued her studies at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar, graduating with a Master’s degree in 2009. Her legal career includes positions with Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, clerkships at the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and a summer associate position with Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.
J.D. Vance has publicly acknowledged Usha’s pivotal role in his life and career, describing her as a strong guiding force and voice of reason. Their story exemplifies the harmonious blend of cultural backgrounds and religious traditions that enrich their family life and personal journeys.
