After the global sensation Game of Thrones came House of the Dragon, a prequel to the fantasy epic based on the novel Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin. Following the success of its predecessor, House of the Dragon gained huge popularity among viewers by focusing on the blonde, dragon-riding Targaryen family and their fierce battle for succession. And with the next episode just around the corner, it’s time to gear up for the release of season 2.
To celebrate the occasion, Tasting Table recipe developer Jeanine Lai has created the perfect drink to sip while you watch: Dragon’s Fire: House of the Dragon Cocktail. Paying homage to House Targaryen, this alcoholic drink is based on the house’s motto, “fire and blood.” The deep smoky flavor of bourbon and the pleasant bitterness of kirsch (cherry-flavored brandy) combine with (and are tempered by) maraschino cherry syrup to sweeten the cocktail, elevate the cherry flavor, and complement the kirsch. The syrup also gives the drink its crimson color. Finally, with a splash of chilled prosecco added to the mix, the drink is fizzing and bloody enough to hatch dragon eggs. So, all you noble dragonriders, read on to find out how to mix up this “House of the Dragon” cocktail known as Dragonfire, or “Dracaris” in High Valyrian!

What can I use instead of Prosecco in a cocktail?
Prosecco is a perennially popular sparkling wine often used in cocktails, but it’s not your only choice when mixing up this Dragon’s Fire recipe. It would be a mistake to think that all sparkling wines are essentially the same, as each wine has its own unique characteristics. Prosecco’s unique fresh, crisp character pairs well with the clean, refreshing character of the kirsch in this drink, while Prosecco’s light, fruity notes also work well with the cherry flavors in the cocktail. Another good choice is Cava. Native to Spain, this sparkling wine is crisp, fruity, and widely available in supermarkets, making it a great fizzy alternative. Crémant also offers a refreshing, pleasant, bubbly finish that pairs well with the other elements of this cocktail.
If you want to lower the alcohol content a bit but still keep the bubbly, you can replace the Prosecco in this cocktail with a non-alcoholic mixer like soda water. For a sweeter finish, top it off with lemon-lime soda, or if you consider yourself a true Targaryen with fire in your blood, why not use some fiery ginger beer instead for a fiery, fizzy drink.

If one dragon-themed cocktail isn’t enough for you, try the Heart of the Dragon. Another delicious House of the Dragon-themed cocktail is a Celtic-inspired sour that combines Irish whiskey, mead, orange juice and red wine, and is colored a beautiful thematic gold to scarlet hue.

If you want to turn up the heat a notch or two, Jamaican jerk chicken wings are the perfect tasty finger food to munch on while you watch.
