New York (1010 Wins/WCBS 880) — The Hostage and Missing Families Forum, formed within 24 hours of the Oct. 7 terror attacks in southern Israel by families of hostages held by Hamas, has published a cookbook entitled “Longing for Shavuot: Their Recipes on Our Table,” showcasing the hostages’ favorite dishes and marking the upcoming Jewish holiday of Shavuot.
The cookbook also features a recipe for Hirsch Goldberg Pollin’s favorite chocolate chip cookies.The 23-year-old hostage, born in Berkeley, California, to Chicago-born John Pollin and Rachel Goldberg, was kidnapped from the Nova music festival.

“Hersh is a true socialite, sincere, positive and full of ideas,” the cookbook says of Hirsch, who was recently seen in a Hamas propaganda video with one arm severely injured by a grenade. “He is an avid fan of the Hapoel Jerusalem basketball and football teams. Hirsch loves studying, reading, listening to music, partying and traveling abroad.”

The Hostage and Missing Families Forum said the cookbook was: Hard copy version available for $45, digital version for $15 –“Through our hearts and stomachs, we connect with our dear brothers and sisters.” Published in collaboration with Be’eri Print.
The forum further explains, “The book contains 75 recipes across 180 pages, including some of their most beloved dishes, from pastries to start the morning off, to warming winter soups and soul-sweetening desserts.”
Hamas killed more than 1,200 people of various nationalities during the attacks and abducted another 250. The Israeli government said 120 people were still being held as of Tuesday, 43 of whom had been declared dead in absentia by Israeli authorities based on a variety of sources, including intelligence tip-offs, surveillance camera and bystander video, and forensic analysis.

Shavuot is a two-day holiday that begins on the evening of June 11th and commemorates the Jewish people’s receipt of the Torah at Mount Sinai. It is common to eat dairy products, such as cheesecake, on this holiday.
