Health Minister opens Ayurvedic hospital in Kuttanad, Kerala

Health Minister Veena George said the government has taken steps to digitize ancient Ayurvedic palm leaf manuscripts and make the information available to researchers and students around the world.

Ms. George recently inaugurated the Government Ayurvedic Dispensary and Health Wellness Center at Thakaji, Kuttanad.

The minister said that Kerala has some of the best Ayush language centers in the country. “150 hospitals in the state are accredited by her NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care Providers). We have already started work to confer NABH accreditation to Takaji Hospital. ” she said.

Ms George said the government had created 116 new posts in the Ayurveda sector. Additionally, 40 medical officer posts have been created in the homeopathy department.

The minister said the construction of the government taluk hospital at Chettikad in Alappuzha has entered its final stage. The Rs 140-crore project is being funded under the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board. His 1,35,000 sq ft five-storey hospital building is being constructed on a 3-acre land adjacent to Chettikkad Primary Health Centre. The taluk hospital will have 10 departments, 150 beds, dialysis unit and other facilities.

George said the construction of the allopathic hospital in Takaji is progressing steadily. The facility is being constructed at a cost of Rs 3.5 billion.

Speaking at the function, MLA Thomas K. Thomas said that funds for building a homeopathic hospital in Thakaji would be sanctioned under the MLA Asset Development Fund.

MP Kodikunnil Suresh, Alappuzha district panchayat member P. Anju, Thakaji grama panchayat president S. Ajayakumar and others attended the ceremony.
