MITCHELL — Chelsea Smith uses hypnotherapy to help people overcome life’s obstacles, one patient at a time.
Whether it’s helping children and adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) improve their learning abilities, dealing with abusive spouse relationships, or quitting smoking, Smith’s hypnotherapy has helped people in the Mitchell area solve countless problems that have plagued their lives. It has helped me overcome the problem. .
“I try to get people relaxed and work on one problem at a time,” Smith said. “Suppose someone who suffers from procrastination wants to know why. We go back to a core childhood memory that is locked in their subconscious and look at it from an adult perspective. The child’s logic makes them understand how they have been unconsciously manipulated.”
Smith’s hypnotherapy business is new to Mitchell, but has been gaining attention in recent months. Since opening Heartful Healing Hypnotherapy in November, Smith said business has taken off within a month of opening thanks to satisfied patients who have referred others. Ta.
The positive results that Smith’s hypnotherapy has had on people in the Mitchell area can be seen in Jeannie Morgan, a Mitchell resident who lost her then 9-year-old daughter Isabella “Bella” Morgan to a drunk driver in 2012. . After her session with Smith, Ms Morgan said she was “shocked” by how much she had “released” the trauma she had experienced in the tragic incident.
“I felt a lot of guilt for not being able to save my daughter from a drunk driver, but I was able to shake that guilt because I knew that I was a good mother and would do anything for my children. I left her room feeling lighter and more energized about life,” Morgan said. “It was an amazing progression in my life.”
Before opening her practice, Smith found herself undergoing hypnotherapy. After losing his mother, Vicki Lynn Pruscha-Young, in early June, Smith said he was looking for ways to cope and overcome the trauma of losing her mother.
So she turned to hypnotherapy. That, she says, was the moment that “changed her life.”
“I’ve battled complex trauma, debilitating depression, and anxiety. I’m very open about my story and all the issues I’ve faced,” Smith said. “This has helped me grieve and understand everything I’ve been through.”
For Smith, helping people in the community through her hypnotherapy practice at the Healing Room, 515 W. Heavens Ave., is one way she “keeps her mother’s legacy alive.” Smith’s mother, Vicki, spent most of her life as a case manager at the Dakota Counseling Institute until she passed away in June from heart and lung disease.
The 29-year-old therapist recently underwent extensive training to become a Certified Rapid Transformation Therapist. Through her certification and training process in Florida, she learned how to practice psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and neurolinguistic programming, to name a few of her areas of expertise.
A unique method for spiritual healing
Smith pointed out that there are distinct differences between hypnotherapy and traditional mental health counseling. What makes hypnotherapy unique, Smith said, is that it identifies the root causes of the problems people are facing and develops ways to “eliminate” them.
“What’s different here is that you bring the problem to us. We look at it, see how it has affected your life, and thank you for what it has brought.” and then remove the problem,” she said. “There are people who have dealt with debilitating depression and anxiety all their lives and nothing made sense to them. But when they understand their underlying beliefs and have a moment of peace and recognition, When they get it, it’s like the world opens up to them.”
While hypnotherapy is a relatively new method for many people in this region who are looking for ways to overcome life’s obstacles, the type of hypnotherapy she offers is popular in other parts of the country, especially professional athletes. She said it has been popular among people for decades.
Professional golfer Tiger Woods and former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal are among the world’s top professional athletes who have turned to hypnotherapy as a way to improve performance. Smith said the benefit of hypnotherapy for athletes is that it can help them “pinpoint” which areas of performance they need to improve and understand why mental blocks exist in their minds. Stated.
“Say a basketball player is having trouble making free throws and you don’t know why. Now you know why,” Smith said. “Many professional athletes and celebrities use hypnotherapy rather than traditional counseling. Hypnotherapy can rewire their thinking and give them the mindset they need to achieve their goals on the playing field. It’s from.”
With the prevalence of ADHD and ADD increasing, Smith said hypnotherapy has shown “promising results” for people dealing with mental disorders. Smith said that since she opened her business, she has provided people suffering from ADD and ADHD with effective ways to improve their academic and work performance.
“I love working with people with ADHD and ADD because if you can make them aware of how their brains are different, their lives change instantly,” Smith said. Told. “I can teach kids how to prioritize things and how to use their unique brains to accomplish goals in the classroom and at work.”
