Shena Morrison has been named Harford County Public Schools Employee of the Year by the School Nutrition Association.
The recognition highlights Morrison’s contributions to North Harford High School’s school nutrition program, according to a news release.
“Her outstanding customer service skills, creativity, and commitment to professional development distinguish her as a leader in the field of school nutrition. Her dedication to this profession has earned her a top spot in regional ratings. position and eventually reached the national level,” the release states.
Morrison, who has been with the system for 27 years, spoke about her motivation to accept the award during a virtual ceremony on April 30.
“To see that excitement. [students’ faces] Serve them their favorite meal,” she said. “Smile. I’ll go the extra mile just to have fun throughout the day.”
As the national winner, Mr. Morrison will receive a plaque and an all-expenses-paid trip to the annual national conference, where he will be celebrated with the other winners.
Kindergarten application
Harford County Public Schools has begun the kindergarten application process for the 2024-2025 school year. Applications can be picked up at any school or can be accessed online for select schools as part of the online application pilot program.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit their child’s future school to pick up an application, according to a news release. If you are unsure of which school your student will attend, information is available by visiting the HCPS website (hcps.org) and searching for Kindergarten Application and Eligibility Guidelines under the “Parents” tab.
Preschool applications for Deerfield Elementary School, Halls Crossroads Elementary School, and Magnolia Elementary School are only being accepted online as part of a testing program. These applications can be submitted at registration.hcps.org.

Per state law, pre-kindergarten is not allowed to be held virtually and applications are not available at Swan Creek School.
