This Jailbird drink has fans who want more.
Convict and social media star Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who served seven years in prison for murdering her mother, shared a “prison-style energy drink” she made with fellow felons in prison.
The 32-year-old posted a video on TikTok on Tuesday, sharing the recipe for a sugary and caffeinated drink she calls “Homemade Red Bull.”
“Nobody drinks Red Bull in prison, so people in prison make this all the time,” Blanchard said in the video, which has been viewed 27.2 million times.
The brunette started by listing the ingredients needed for the soda. A bag of Jolly Ranchers, Kool-Aid Hawaiian Punch singles, Strawberry Fanta, and Folgers instant coffee.
But don’t get tipsy with Gypsies.
Blanchard clarified that the drink is suitable for teetotalers, as alcohol is never allowed in prison.
Staring outside, she points out that for Jolly Ranchers, crushing drinks before making them is “kind of important.”
Blanchard walks viewers through the process step-by-step, as she takes a “generous scoop” of instant coffee and places it in a glass of water to dissolve.
She then pours the coffee into a mixing bowl and adds a bag of Kool-Aid.
Next step: “We’re going to use strawberry Fanta. The key is to get a juicy flavor, like a very fruity one.”
The ex-felon mixed all the ingredients together and warned, “It will foam up, but it’s okay.”
After giving it a “good mix,” she goes ahead and adds pre-crushed Jolly Ranchers for an added sugar effect.
“Serve in a cup with ice,” she said. “Please don’t drink this warm. You’ll definitely not want that.”
Blanchard gives the mixture one final swirl, then pours it into a glass with ice and takes a sip herself.
This drink appears to be popular among inmates at Blanchard Prison, giving them energy while in prison.
This unlikely influencer told a story about a time in prison when her “roommate” came back to their shared cell to find her on all fours cleaning the walls with a toothbrush.
“She was like, ‘Oh, Gypsy gets accused again,'” Blanchard laughed. “We call this drink ‘rack’ because that’s what they call it in prison.” I don’t know why it’s called that. ”
According to The Prison Journalism Project’s prison jargon glossary, “rack” is defined as: “A caffeinated beverage such as soda, coffee, or tea that has been boiled down with a large amount of sugar.”
Blanchard admitted that even though he’s no longer in prison, he still drinks prison-inspired drinks.
She encouraged her followers to try the drink “if they’re brave enough”, and suggested: “If you’re feeling really brave, instead of using Fanta, use Red Bull.”
