Mumbai: Gupt Navratri is a festival in honour of the various forms of Goddess Durga, which begins on the first day of the bright fortnight in the month of Ashadh. Gupt Navratri, which occurs twice a year, holds special significance in the Hindu tradition, especially for practitioners of Tantra.
As part of Gupt Navratri, devotees perform rituals and chant mantras to ward off illness, sorrow and faults. On the first day, a kalash is established, a symbolic act which signifies the presence of all the deities within it.
This year, Punarvasu Nakshatra coincides with Gupt Navratri for the first time in decades. Devotees worship the 10 Mahavidyas of Goddess Durga. It is very important to erect a ghat (kalash) on the first day of Navratri. A copper, brass or clay vessel is often used for this purpose. The kalash should be new and pure to please Goddess Durga and fulfill the wishes of devotees.

After completing the puja, the kalash used for worship is submerged in the river. For this reason, kalash is made from clay, which is considered the purest and most sacred material. To prepare a clay kalash, you need a lid, a coconut with a stem, a sacred thread, Ganges water, a red cloth, a sacred thread, and rice grains.
Make sure that your clay Kalash does not have any black spots as these can adversely affect the sanctity of the Puja. Kalash should always be placed in the North-East direction (Ishan Kon), placing it in any other direction will allow bad energy into your home.
A broken or defective Kalash should never be installed as it may anger Goddess Durga. The Kalash should not be moved intentionally or accidentally during the nine-day festival. The use of black soil and dirty water should be avoided during Kalash Sthapana.
Gupt Navratri is known to have deep spiritual significance and holds a special place in the hearts of devotees seeking spiritual upliftment and divine blessings.
