New York Giants general manager Joe Sean on Thursday revealed something not even “Hard Knocks” could reveal: coach Brian Daboll’s weight-loss secret weapon this offseason.
Pilates.
“One thing he’s probably become obsessed with in the last three or four weeks is Pilates,” Sean told Kay Adams during an appearance on Up & Adams. “He’s been doing Pilates. The first week and a half it killed him. He could barely move, but then he stuck with it for about two weeks and now he’s hooked.”
Daboll has lost a lot of weight since the end of the 2023 season and has been a hot topic around the Giants’ facility as training camp opens.
Daboll, who also participated in a weight-loss challenge organized by Giants staff during the offseason, wouldn’t disclose how much weight he lost, only that it was nothing compared to the more than 100 pounds he lost in a year while coaching the Cleveland Browns.
“I have about 30, 40 friends. They know my weight history, my weight gain and loss,” Daboll said Wednesday. “There was a season in Cleveland where I lost 112 pounds. I didn’t lose a lot of weight, but last year I kind of lost a bet with one of my best friends, who has tattoos, rides a motorcycle and didn’t even graduate from high school.
“He travels alone on his motorbike to South America, goes all the way to the end and comes back. This year my main goal was to beat him so he had to look after a lot of things – starting with the staff and the weight loss challenge, but also my friend Marty. I’m glad he did his thing this year and didn’t have to look after me.”
Daboll seems like a great athlete, and maybe he can run the 7-second 40-yard dash, which he claimed he could do in Hard Knocks.
