Our Gender Clinic’s hypnotherapy has incredible potential as a therapeutic tool for transgender people, explains trained hypnotherapist Joe Oakes.

As the child of a trans person (Marianne Oakes, who also happens to be GenderGP’s lead therapist), I have had many conversations with her about how we, as cis allies, can help the trans community and provide practical support. I did.
Marianne explained that many transgender people experience anxiety about coming out, social acceptance, and phobias such as needles and surgery. Marianne felt there needed to be another way to support her community. Something that might help address these issues commonly faced by transgender people. She suggested we consider hypnosis at our gender clinic, which she honestly thought seemed like a crazy idea at the time. After doing some research, I started training in hypnotherapy and the more I learned about it, the more I fell in love with it.
I have seen with my own eyes how it brings success to people, changes people’s lives, eliminates fears and phobias, and helps them control anxiety.
At our gender clinic, how can hypnotherapy help transgender people?
Hypnotherapy at our gender clinic can be used to find the cause of your fears and phobias and can reduce your suffering. Hypnosis has long-term effects, allowing you to address and cope with long-term fears.
a large amount of evidence has shown that hypnotherapy is an excellent treatment for anxiety and anxiety-related disorders. Hypnotherapy at our gender clinic can relieve anxiety about social or medical transitions, anxiety about going out in public, anxiety about injections or medical care.
Transgender people already face anxiety, depression, and other poor mental health conditions, many of which are related to the challenges and discrimination they face in their daily lives. Hypnosis can help individuals develop more positive ways of dealing with daily stress.
It also helps alleviate some of the stress associated with trans healthcare. For example, before gender reassignment surgery, transgender people may be asked to increase or decrease their BMI, stop smoking, reduce anxiety, and generally lead a healthier life both physically and mentally. there is. However, depriving yourself of emotional support processes (e.g., comfort food) can cause stress and worsen existing mental health problems. Hypnosis can help minimize this type of stress and help people develop healthier and happier behaviors overall. In future blogs, I will write about specific areas of hypnotherapy and its benefits.
So what is hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a form of therapy that uses a technique called “suggestion” to help restructure the subconscious mind. This will help you reframe harmful thinking and achieve positive results. Many people expect hypnotherapy to be like the stage hypnotherapy they see on TV, but real-life hypnotherapy looks nothing like this. It is an authentic, effective and evidence-based treatment process regulated by the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR).
During hypnotherapy at our gender clinic, you will be awake and alert, yet very relaxed. He is not asleep or unconscious. After your hypnotherapy session at our gender clinic, you will be provided with a high-quality audio recording of the entire session, which you can listen back to before your next session. These recordings form part of the toolbox of techniques you learn during your sessions and allow you to continue making progress long after treatment has ended.
This is a short-term process that typically requires 3-6 sessions, but can produce long-term results. This is goal-oriented and your therapist will discuss which immediate issues you would like to focus on and take a holistic approach to addressing them. This means that the totality of your emotions, thoughts, physical experiences, and spiritual understanding will be considered, and how these factors relate to the problem in question.
At our gender clinic, we often receive questions about whether hypnotherapy works for everyone. The short answer is yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed. You need to be open and willing to put in the effort and change your life. This may not happen right away, but through conversation and relaxation techniques, you can access the right mindset to make these positive changes.
Benefits of hypnotherapy
My approach to hypnotherapy begins by building a trusting relationship with my clients, as each client has unique goals they wish to achieve. I immerse myself in the problems my clients want to solve and understand what they want to achieve. The most rewarding part of my job is helping transgender and non-binary people live happier, more fulfilling lives. For more information about hypnotherapy, please visit Gender Clinic below.
