Garland, Texas (June 20, 2024) – Garland Independent School District is proud to announce the return and expansion of its Summer Meal Program, administered by Student Nutrition Services (SNS), which will continue to provide nutritious breakfasts and lunches to children throughout the Garland Independent School District community.
This year, GISD has expanded the reach of its Summer Meal Program. In addition to existing meal sites on select GISD campuses, the district is partnering with five community sites to help even more kids have access to healthy meals. These meals are free and available to all children under the age of 18. They do not need to be registered with GISD. Children do not need to be registered to receive meals at designated locations, but they must be accompanied by an adult or older sibling. Meals must be eaten at the location.
New Curbside Grab-and-Go Meal Program
SNS and the City of Rowlett have announced an exciting new development with the introduction of a Curbside Grab and Go Meal Program at the Rowlett Utilities Customer Service Center located at 6602 Dalrock Rd. Meals will be provided on Wednesdays from 6-8pm and Saturdays from 8-10am, June 19-July 20. The program provides bundled meals and is available to all families in the surrounding area that qualify for this service, including non-GISD families. However, children who attend lunch at the summer meal site will be asked to refrain from using the Grab and Go program to avoid overlapping meals.
To ensure there are enough meals available, SNS asks families to fill out an interest form before picking up. Wednesday pick-ups include breakfast and lunch on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday pick-ups include meals for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
During the first collection on Wednesday, June 19, SNS provided 456 three-day meal packs for a total of 2,736 meals to children in the area. The agency is preparing meals for 550 children by collection on Saturday, June 22.
