GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Immigrant Neighborhood Inclusion (GINI) Initiative raises its third Belonging Development Fund to support projects that support local and community leaders and projects through the Rural Women’s Health Project We are pleased to announce that we are one of the first four nationwide. Winners are selected through a competitive process in which projects are evaluated on how effectively they bring together immigrants and non-immigrants to work on projects of common interest, with the ultimate goal of fostering a stronger sense of belonging. As last year, the GINI Initiative continues its partnership with Flavorful, Inc., where members of the U.S.-born and immigrant communities learn about culturally significant meals from local chefs and collaborate to create their own “Gainesville/Alachua Recipes.” This year’s GINI will focus on locally sourced, healthy ingredients and include cultural and artistic elements that will encourage participants to think about belonging and inclusion.

To accomplish this, the GINI Initiative will increase access to healthy food, support small business owners, and educate at-risk populations on how to generate sustainable income for their families. We are also proud to partner with Swarthy East GNV, a non-profit organization dedicated to . Also participating is the organization ARTSPEAKS called Recipes for Belonging. The organization aims to provide the community with opportunities to participate in and appreciate all aspects of the literary, visual, and performing arts.
