Health Advice
Amarnath Yatra involves trekking at an altitude of around 15,000 ft. Hence, altitude sickness is common. If you experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, fatigue, lightheadedness, dizziness, loss of appetite, visual disturbances, bladder and bowel dysfunction, chest tightness, rapid breathing and increased heart rate, do not hesitate to consult a doctor.
prevention
1. Take active steps to improve your physical fitness by walking 4-5 km daily in the morning or evening for at least a month before the Yatra. Deep breathing exercises like yoga can improve oxygen efficiency in the body.
2. Walk slowly when climbing steep hills and take breaks when necessary. Drink at least 5 liters of water to prevent headaches and dehydration. Also, consume enough carbohydrates to reduce symptoms of fatigue and prevent hypoglycemia.
3. Get a medical check-up before you travel. If you are taking any medication, consult with your doctor to make sure there are no risks to you while traveling. Carry portable oxygen with you if possible.
