The annual pilgrimage, Amarnath Pilgrimage, began on June 29. Devotees can offer prayers to Lord Shiva till August 19. This sacred journey takes pilgrims to the revered Amarnath cave, where natural ice stalagmites are believed to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva. Devotees start the pilgrimage from Pahalgam and pass through scenic spots like Chandanwari, Pissu Top, Sheshnag and Panchtarni. If you are looking forward to embarking on this sacred journey, check out these detailed guidelines and precautions.

Health Advice

Amarnath Yatra involves trekking at an altitude of around 15,000 ft. Hence, altitude sickness is common. If you experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, fatigue, lightheadedness, dizziness, loss of appetite, visual disturbances, bladder and bowel dysfunction, chest tightness, rapid breathing and increased heart rate, do not hesitate to consult a doctor.

prevention

1. Take active steps to improve your physical fitness by walking 4-5 km daily in the morning or evening for at least a month before the Yatra. Deep breathing exercises like yoga can improve oxygen efficiency in the body.

2. Walk slowly when climbing steep hills and take breaks when necessary. Drink at least 5 liters of water to prevent headaches and dehydration. Also, consume enough carbohydrates to reduce symptoms of fatigue and prevent hypoglycemia.

3. Get a medical check-up before you travel. If you are taking any medication, consult with your doctor to make sure there are no risks to you while traveling. Carry portable oxygen with you if possible.

Travel Guide

1. Pack enough woolen clothes as temperatures may drop below 5°C. Keep clothes and food in waterproof bags.

2. Always carry an umbrella, raincoat and waterproof shoes as the weather can be unpredictable. Do not wear slippers as accidents can occur on steep slopes. Wear sneakers or non-slip boots.

3. Wear comfortable clothes during the Yatra.

4. Don’t forget to take your identity card or driving license and Yatra permit. Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) is mandatory.

How to Use Helicopter Services

If you want a faster journey, you can book helicopter services through the official website of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (https://jksasb.nic.in/) or through an authorized travel agency. It is advisable to book your tickets early to avoid crowds.

All you have to do is register on the portal with your mobile number and email ID and you will receive an OTP. Next, add the passenger and other personal details. Click on the booking option and download the ticket once complete.
