On May 4, 2024, the Cultural Center of the Italian Embassy hosted a book presentation by the renowned author, teacher and traveler Stefano Pelle. His latest book, Going Places, is the perfect combination of leisure reading and travel knowledge for executives who travel as part of their jobs.
According to Pelle, this book is more than just a guidebook or travelogue, it’s a companion for people who are always on the go. This book provides valuable tips and interesting anecdotes gleaned from years of first-hand experience of how you and your fellow travelers behave.
Before diving into the content of the book, Pelle’s fellow panelists discussed in detail his travels and his own experiences in different countries. As a modern explorer, he talked about how tolerant people have become, especially when it comes to traveling abroad. When people from country “A” visit country “S”, they gain a deeper appreciation for the culture and experiences there.
He also shared what he learned from his own adventures, how traveling isn’t always roses and daisies and sometimes there are challenges and hurdles. From the intricacies of visa procedures in Russia to the intricacies of travel procedures in Italy, with every trip people gain new knowledge and grow wiser with their experiences.
Pelle then gave a presentation on behalf of his friend to the audience in attendance. Titled “Books and Friends,” the session was fun and informative, with topics ranging from the beauty of travel to the fact that reading time is decreasing all over the world.
Pelle began the discussion by talking about how valuable companionship with books is. He talked about the friendships and emotions found within the pages of books and even compared those little stories to having friends for his life, as they are all etched in the memory.
Pele spoke with great clarity about the power of literature to transport people to another world without ever leaving their homes.
Continuing his presentation, Mr. Pelle also talks about the need to revive the culture of reading in an era where interactions are dominated by screens. He highlights the many benefits of reading, such as increasing knowledge, improving imagination, and increasing concentration span, and engages the audience by asking a few questions.
Pelle then also spoke about how his literary journey began in the most unexpected place, drawing on personal experience. He traveled a lot for his job, so much so that he wrote the first draft of his first book on a plane and the idea for his latest book, Going Places, which he lectured on to large groups of people. I shared with the audience what I came up with while doing this. MBA student.
The event ended on a high note with several questions and answers from the audience, and he said afterwards that the funds raised from the purchase of the book went directly to donations and philanthropy.
