The Southern Queens Parks Association (SQPA) will be hosting a Wellness Fair and Basketball Tournament at the Roy Wilkins Recreation Centre in Jamaica on Saturday, June 1. The event will run from 10am to 2pm and is free and open to the public.
Located at 177-01 Baisley Blvd., the center will set the stage for a day packed with health-focused activities suitable for all ages. Participants will receive a variety of free health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and vision screenings. The event will also provide educational resources on health and wellness.
The day’s events included a basketball tournament featuring a championship game for players over the age of 50 and appearances from special guests. Having served the Queens community for more than 45 years, SQPA highlights the event as part of its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for residents through cultural, social, recreational and educational programming.
The organization also manages Roy Wilkins Park and uses the space to further its mission of serving the local community. Families with children of all ages are welcome to attend the festival, which aims to provide attendees with both fun and basic health information.
