GUWAHATI: A 100-bed yoga and naturopathy hospital will come up in Dibrugarh, Assam.
Ayush Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone of the hospital and the Central Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIYN) on Sunday.
The hospital, which is part of CRIYN, will be the third facility in the country and the first in eastern India.
The institute will be developed on a land plot of about 15 acres with an investment of about Rs 100 crore. It aims to create a scientifically valid and useful synergy between traditional knowledge of yoga and naturopathy and modern technological tools.
It will establish benchmark standards in research in the fields of education, preventive medicine, yoga and naturopathy.
Apart from serving as an international collaborative center for the global promotion and research of yoga and naturopathy, this state-of-the-art institute will explore fundamental aspects, scientific validation of traditional medical systems, and evidence-based The focus will be on practical research. The institute will also function as an incubation center for startups in the yoga and wellness field.
Sonowal said the Ayush movement has received a huge boost under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Minister said, “This (CRYIN) is a new initiative that will empower Assam and the entire Northeast to take advantage of its rich flora and fauna and drive expansion of the Ayush sector along with peripheral growth in the hospitality, patient care and medical tourism sectors. This is proof of this.”
The institute said it will also provide clinical training facilities to train yoga and naturopathy experts for capacity development programs in areas such as cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes rehabilitation and autoimmune diseases.
“Naturopathy and yoga are the two most important branches of Ayush, which not only cure diseases but also rejuvenate the mind and body, enabling you to tackle any challenge and lead a healthy life.” CM Sarma said in his speech.
“With the opening of this hospital and research centre, the people of Assam as well as adjoining regions will benefit immensely,” he added.
