NEW DELHI: Asserting that spiritual empowerment is true empowerment, President Draupadi Murmu on Monday said followers of any religion or sect, if they stray from the path of spirituality, become victims of fanaticism and fall into an unwholesome state of mind.
“Spiritual values connect people of all religions with each other,” she said while speaking at the nationwide launch of ‘Spiritual Empowerment for Clean and Healthy Society’ organised here by Brahma Kumaris.
The President said forces stoking fear, terror and war were very active in many parts of the world.
“In such an environment, the Brahma Kumari Society has provided an effective platform for empowerment of humanity through its many centres in over 100 countries. It is a valuable initiative to strengthen universal brotherhood by promoting spiritual values,” Murmu said.
The President said that golden ages in world history and national history have always been based on spiritual values.
“World history is a testimony to the fact that ignoring spiritual values and choosing only the path of material progress ultimately led to disastrous results. Overall happiness is possible only on the basis of a healthy mind,” she said.
Murmu said a truly healthy human being is one who is in all three dimensions – physically, mentally and spiritually – and it is this human being who creates a healthy society, nation and global community, she added.
The President said spiritual empowerment is true empowerment.
“Believers of any religion or sect, when they stray from the path of spirituality, become victims of fanaticism and fall into an unwholesome state of mind,” Murmu was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the presidential palace.
The President said working in the spirit of public welfare while overcoming self-interest is a social expression of inner spirituality.
“Performing charitable acts for the public good is one of the most important spiritual values,” she said.
The statement said the President was delighted to say that the Brahma Kumaris Society is perhaps the largest religious institution in the world run by women.
She said that in this organisation “Brahma Kumaris are at the forefront and their associate Brahma Kumar works behind the scenes”.
“Such unique harmony has enabled the organisation to continuously move forward and in so doing, set a unique example of spiritual progress and women empowerment to the global community,” Murmu said.
