FLX Wellness: April showers bring May flowers | Health

aPrill represents our own renewal and new beginnings. The world around us is full of possibilities and expansion. Just as we see new life sprouting after a cold winter, we are reminded that no matter how difficult our circumstances, there is always hope for a fresh start and a brighter tomorrow.

When I think of April, the phrase “April showers bring May flowers” comes to mind. April showers symbolize storms, challenges, adversity and trials in our lives. And the flowers that bloom in May symbolize the growth, blessings, joy, and opportunities that come after the rains. And it definitely rains this time of year in the Finger Lakes region.

I often hear myself say, “When will this rain stop?” I’m tired of this rain. Why not just the sun! When can you see spring flowers? ” But this year, I had an “aha” moment. Just as we have to overcome storms (challenges, crises, trials) to get flowers (blessings), we need rain to get flowers.

I also encountered a storm. In moments like these, I wondered what the purpose was or if there was an end in sight. Looking back now, I can see that storms don’t last forever and that they all have brought wonderful “flowers”.

British priest and author George Herbert reminds us: “The stronger the storm, the greater the blessing. The greater the trial, the greater the victory.”

We all experience storms, and it’s easy to focus on the negative things in life. Having hope that the clouds will part and meaningful blessings will follow helps us be resilient and “bloom in the shower.” When we are in the midst of our darkest and most difficult times, it feels as if we will never see the light. The storm is violent and chaotic, with no end in sight. But what we don’t realize is that under the pain, suffering, and confusion, we gain strength and are ready to push through the soil and overcome these challenges to bloom. .

It is only when the storm stops and fades into our memories that stress and suffering begin to fade. Just as April rains were necessary for May flowers, we recognize that this storm brought something new and was there for a reason. We understood the meaning behind the ordeal and our perspective on the storm changed. When we seek meaning from our trials, we can appreciate and appreciate the blessings that come from them. Even if the next storm comes, we can have hope that another blessing will come our way.

Sometimes trials are so difficult that positive changes and emerging gifts are hidden from view. Below are some examples of “flowers” that may come after a metaphorical storm. We were laid off from extremely stressful jobs and forced to pursue our dream careers. We went through a painful divorce to let go of an unhealthy relationship to make room for a new partner. Losing a loved one may make us appreciate life and embrace living in the moment. When you change your perspective from “life is constantly throwing itself at me” to “after this ordeal, I know I’ve grown and learned something, and I have hope.”

A side effect of winning a battle is increased self-confidence and mental strength, increasing your strength and resilience to face the next challenge. Whatever the outcome, we know we have changed.

April is also known as the national month of hope. Hope is the belief and vision that something better will happen than the trials we are experiencing. Having hope reminds us that no matter how difficult our circumstances are, there is always a chance for a new start and a better tomorrow.

It is so important to our mental and emotional health that we can cultivate hope that blessings will come during trials. Hope reduces feelings of helplessness, increases happiness, reduces stress, and improves our overall quality of life. Hope is essential to give us strength, to overcome difficult moments, to adapt to difficulties, to summon the belief that things will get better, to persevere, to imagine, and to give us the strength to create a brighter future.

But how can we change our perspective and cultivate hope? By gaining clarity and creating space for ourselves in the midst of everything we’re facing.

Here are some practical ways to help you shift your mindset to foster hope.

• Meditation; Spend time in quiet contemplation and prayer.

• Get into nature.

• Reduce stress.

• Practice gratitude.

• Monitor your inner voice and focus on negative self-talk.

• Get support and surround yourself with positive people.

• Enjoy uplifting experiences and laughter.

• Practice changing the way you think and think about challenges.

The storm left me devastated and in immense pain, but eventually the storm stopped, the sun came out, and the flowers bloomed. Something good came out of every trial in my life. This is proof to me that showers don’t last forever and there is always a purpose to help me grow.

Challenges continue to change my mindset and outlook on life. And right now, when I look outside, the rain has stopped, the sun has come out, and the flowers have finally bloomed.

I hope you, too, find that no matter what situation you’re facing right now, there’s a blessing just around the corner. Having this hope will help you live a rich life.
