“Blood sugar levels are something we should strive for when thinking about keeping our bodies healthy.”
That was one of the many messages Fit Nutrition’s Tania Gustafson shared when she recently spoke with NowMedia’s Jim Seck about the importance of stabilizing blood sugar levels and other topics in the latest episode of the series. did.
“When your blood sugar levels aren’t stable, your blood sugar levels will spike and fall quickly. So if you skip meals (or) go too long between meals, your blood sugar levels will drop (and) your body will lose muscle. We burn it,” Gustafsson explained.
“When you’re eating too much, too much processed carbohydrates, too much alcohol, too much sugar. That’s when your blood sugar spikes, and every time your blood sugar spikes, you’re storing fat.”
Gustafsson further explained that people can get into a good middle ground by focusing on what they eat, especially in the morning.
“Focus on eating within the first hour of waking up and prioritize protein. So make sure you get your protein, fat, and carbohydrates in,” she explained.
The two then addressed the importance of breakfast and how it sets the tone for the day.
“When you skip breakfast, your blood sugar levels drop and your body starts burning muscle, because your brain never shuts down and needs to convert protein into glucose for nutrition,” Gustafson added.
“So if you’ve already set yourself up that way, the first thing you eat that day will be stored as fat.”
After discussing various ways to keep your diet on track and blood sugar levels more stable, Gustafson touched on maintaining lifestyle changes.
“These lifestyle changes can be made at any time, but if you prioritize your protein intake and eat your protein, fat, and carbohydrates within the first hour and every three to four hours throughout the day, you’ll notice a big difference. ” Gustafsson explained.
Check back for the next episode of this series, which covers hormones, metabolism, and menopause.
