NEW DELHI: The first photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi meditating at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial were released on Friday.
After completing two months of gruelling election campaigning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook 45 hours of meditation at Vivekananda Rock in Kanyakumari on Thursday. Dressed in an orange outfit, Modi can be seen meditating in front of the statue of Swami Vivekananda.
PM Modi will meditate till the afternoon of June 1. This is the place where Swami Vivekananda meditated for three days in 1892. The rock has a special hall, Shripada Mandapam, where, as per legend, Goddess Parvati meditated for Lord Shiva.
The Prime Minister arrived in Kanyakumari from Thiruvananthapuram by flight at around 4.45 pm and visited the coastal Bhagavathi Amman temple, where he offered prayers to Goddess Parvati and was later presented with a painting of the goddess by the temple authorities.
PM Modi then boarded a ferry to the Vivekananda Rock. After paying respects to the statue of Swami Vivekananda and portraits of Lord Paramahamsa and Lord Sharada, PM Modi began meditating at the Dhyan Mandapam. The PM had made similar trips to Pratapagarh and Kedarnath at the end of the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha election campaigns respectively.
This is the Prime Minister’s ninth visit to Tamil Nadu since January this year. The rock and the tourist-filled town of Kanyakumari were under heavy security on Thursday. Devotees were not allowed to enter the Bhagavathy temple after noon. Vivekananda Rock will remain off-limits to tourists till Saturday. Over 3,000 policemen were on guard. Navy and coast guard vessels were in the sea. Fishing was suspended for three days.
