ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — For the first time, a local church is hosting a spring health fair that takes a holistic approach to health. The Spring Health Fair will focus on mental, physical and financial health, along with other information on life insurance and addressing food insecurity.
Deborah Ellerbe, Community Engagement Director for Walking in God’s Grace Ministries, said, “There are so many resources that are needed and we want to make them available to the community and support them. I just want to help people live healthier lives.” They can make their own decisions. ”
That’s Deborah Ellerbe, director of community engagement for Walking in God’s Grace Ministries. After thinking about her own health, she said she asked her pastor if he could organize a health fair for her.
“I think he was like, ‘Okay, whatever Deborah does,’ because I kept bringing these ideas to him,” she said. And it just grew. ”
But Pastor Nate McFarland had his own reasons for agreeing. “I encourage them to trust in their faith, but I also encourage them to use the doctors that are available, because I believe that is part of God’s creation,” McFarr said. Rand said.
The pastor said he has lost two brothers and a sister-in-law in the past three years, which is one of the reasons he wants to educate the community.
Fair attendees can receive free mammograms from the UR Mobile Mammography Van, dental exams, blood pressure tests, and even haircuts. You can also pick up a COVID kit or his Narcan kit.
“If we can provide that to the community in one place, everything under one roof, it makes it so much easier,” Ellerbe said.
The fair will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Montgomery Center, 10 Cady St. Rochester. Ellerbe said all participants are welcome.
