Before cooking, Khan joked about how Shilpa Shetty Kundra made a lot of money by inviting choreographers to share the Yakhni pulao recipe on her YouTube channel. Traditionally, yakhni pulao is made with mutton, but Farah Khan’s helper Dilip had forgotten about it, so he brought chicken. The director added that chicken cooks faster than mutton, so making yakni pulao with chicken is a good idea if you’re looking for an easy method.

Farah Khan’s first video on her YouTube channel was the secret recipe of Yakni Pulao and this video received a lot of love from the viewers. Within his 18 hours of being published, the video had garnered him over 35,000 views and Mr. Khan had already managed to secure his 730,000 subscribers.
Farah Khan’s Yakni Pulao Recipe
- chicken 1kg
- 2 onion slices
- 2 diced potatoes
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2-3 green chili slices
- 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
- As salty as you like
- 1.5 cups of rice
- Cup card 500g
Preparation method
- Farah Khan started by slicing onions and dicing potatoes. Soak the rice in a bowl and set aside while you prepare the chicken.
- Add oil to pressure cooker. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds and green chillies.
- When the cumin seeds start spluttering, add the sliced onions and wait until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and chicken. Farah Khan avoided adding water because it would splash on the chicken. Wait for the whistle to sound twice. If you are cooking mutton, you will need to wait at least 4 whistles until the meat is cooked through.
- Open the pressure cooker and add the soaked basmati rice, curd, diced potatoes, garam masala and salt to taste.
- After 4 whistles, turn off the heat and mix the ingredients. If you are using mutton to make yakhni pulao, whistle it 6-7 times before turning off the heat.
- Farah Khan served hot yakni pulao to the house helpers. Although they liked the food, Dilip was not very impressed with Farah’s cooking skills.
