Emotional exploration: Uncovering the mysteries of human experience
In her master’s thesis, Savannah interviews experts in a variety of fields and explores expanded states of consciousness, spiritual experiences, and crisis encounters.
– In my paper, I interview nine people from different walks of life about how they approach expanded states of consciousness, spiritual experiences, and what are called crisis states.
From behavioral science to social work
Savannah decided to pursue a master’s degree in social work to use her background in behavioral science to better understand people’s conditions, structural systems, and the economic and social forces that affect them. . Our faculty encourages students from a variety of fields to enrich their perspectives and make meaningful contributions to society.
– I want to understand people and events from various perspectives. That’s why I decided to write my thesis in social work, because the question “What did you experience and how did it affect you?” exists in social theory.
Cultivating Potential: Unleashing Activism in Social Work
For ambitious activists who aspire to make a difference, Savannah’s passion resonates deeply. Through her dissertation, she seeks to encourage open dialogue about spirituality in social work and human care organizations. Our programs develop and empower students like Savannah to embrace unique perspectives and advocate for social change.
– After writing the paper, I want to become more of an activist. Talking more about spirituality in social work and human care organizations. I feel like we are afraid to mention spirituality when someone is suffering. It can often be seen as a form of religious delusion or escapism. I don’t think it’s necessary to take a position on whether it exists or not. I want to look at people’s reality from where they are now.
Why did you decide to continue studying?
– I work as a counselor in a crisis center, responding and having supportive conversations with people who have experienced intimate partner violence. I seek a deeper understanding of people’s situations, structural systems, and the economic and social forces that affect them. I believe there is great value in gaining a deeper understanding of an individual’s potential in their surrounding environment.
Master’s thesis is now part of the book
Her passion led her to write her master’s thesis, which is now an important chapter in an interdisciplinary book.
– My thesis supervisor was involved in publishing anthologies on Mad Studies, Artistic Perspectives, and Cultural Heritage Studies. I write my dissertation from a mad studies perspective, based on people’s experiences of mystical or religious encounters, so the content of my dissertation applies well to this book.
