Mary Sheeran is pleased to announce the release of her latest novel, Idylls of the Collar. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/1636830676]a fascinating exploration of the complexities of friendship, faith, and feminist ethos within the church.
Readers meet Janine Shannon and Meg Madigan in this thought-provoking story about two women who meet during a seminary class. Janine, a writer with a deep interest in feminist spirituality, audits the class to gain a new perspective on the Old Testament. Meg, a former Catholic nun, is seeking ordination in the Anglican Church as part of a life-changing journey. The main theme of the novel is her commitment to her new faith and the challenges she faces along the way. This chance encounter sparks a deep bond that will change both women’s lives forever.
This moving story shows Janine steadfastly supporting Meg through the difficulties of her ordination. But as their relationship deepens, Janine begins to question her own vocation to the priesthood. Church politics and outside influences exacerbate this internal conflict. An unexpected clash arises when Meg fulfills her wish to become a priest, but her change of attitude perplexes Janine and puts their friendship at risk.
Mary Sheeran’s Idylls of the Collar is a flawless exploration of the complex dynamics of friendship, highlighting how both institutional obstacles and personal goals impact relationships. Janine’s struggle with resentment and disillusionment is candid and honest, conveying the emotional pain of someone torn between standing by a friend and battling her own psychological insecurity.
The story’s turning point, when Janine must choose whether to resist the forces that jeopardize her spiritual path or ultimately forgive herself, is both heartbreaking and moving. More than just a story about two people’s personal faith, Idylls of the Collar reflects more general issues around gender and spirituality within religious institutions.
Through its complex character development and sophisticated portrayal of the feminist psyche, this story offers readers a deeply moving and thought-provoking experience. Readers interested in contemporary religious themes, feminist psyche, and the complexities of human relationships will find great delight in Mary Sheeran’s skillfully written story.
