Experts reveal the most effective skin care routines to prevent dark circles under the eyes and other signs of ageing.
Mara Ibrahim said the skin around the eyes was particularly vulnerable to losing its youthful appearance as it was “10 times thinner” than the skin on the face.
Ibrahim is the U.S. national education director and skin expert for French cosmetics company Clarins.
In an interview with The Sun, she shared her must-try tips for fighting the signs of ageing.
Prevent dark circles under the eyes
Ibrahim said there are a variety of firming eye creams, gels and treatments designed to reduce the appearance of under-eye bags.
The most rejuvenating product is Clarins Total Eye Lift Serum, which “firms and lifts” the eyes.

She said that while beauty products are beneficial, lifestyle factors also play a “significant role” in overall appearance.
“Getting enough sleep, diet, hydration and exercise can go a long way in taking care of your skin and reducing bags and dark circles under your eyes,” she says.
“Getting enough quality sleep at night helps your body carry out necessary repairs, such as regenerating skin cells and producing collagen, which can help reduce the appearance of dark circles under your eyes.”
Smooth fine lines
Ibrahim said it was inevitable that the skin would wrinkle and thin as we age.

But habits such as staying up late, fatigue, stress and hormonal changes can have a “significant impact” on how quickly fine lines appear and a dull complexion.
She revealed that she doesn’t need Botox or cosmetic injections to make her skin look younger.
“Paying attention to your skincare, routine, and lifestyle can help soothe and re-nourish your skin,” she says.
“Using a hydrating, anti-aging face cream on your face every day, such as Clarins Super Restorative Day Cream, is a good start.
To brighten your skin, exfoliate regularly, ideally 1-3 times a week.

“And before you go to bed, be sure to use a night cream that will leave your skin feeling fresh and radiant when you wake up in the morning.

She said the Clarins Double Serum can visibly firm and smooth skin in seven days.
“The best time to use this is in the morning to boost skin’s radiance and give the appearance of a youthful complexion,” she said.
Powerful products
Ibrahim said smoother skin can be achieved by using different products before applying makeup.
Her top picks are Clarins Multi-Active Treatment Essence and Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch Makeup Primer.
She said it refreshes the skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pores.
“If you want to wear your makeup every day but still focus on making your skin look younger, Clarins Everlasting Youth Fluid Foundation offers medium to full coverage,” she said.
“At the same time, it tightens the skin for a more youthful complexion.”
Mara Ibrahim previously spoke to the US Sun about the dangers of DIY beauty hacks.
She says that while many people believe lemon juice is effective at whitening the skin, it can cause irritation and chemical burns, and aggravate existing skin conditions.
She also advised against applying ice to the face as it could “injure the delicate facial skin” and cause broken capillaries, making them more sensitive.
