The study, which included 89 adults at risk for type 2 diabetes, found something that may seem surprising at first glance: eating plant-based meat substitutes doesn’t offer any significant heart health benefits compared to eating actual animal meat.
The second study was led by experts at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital in Athens, Georgia, and its findings were presented in early April 2024 at the American College of Cardiology’s Annual Scientific Sessions.
Data from 3,170 participants were analyzed.
The study found that of these, 89 percent were consuming more than double the “ideal” intake recommended by the American Heart Association.
