Eddie Murphy Discusses Anti-Aging Secrets and Possible Broadway Show (Exclusive)

Eddie Murphy to return as Axel Foley in ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’

Murphy attended the Los Angeles premiere with his friend Martin Lawrence, his 10 children, and his fiancee Paige.

It took 30 years to reprise the role that made him a global superstar, but Eddie told “Extra’s” Melvin Roberts it was worth the wait.

“When I shot the last one in ’94… I thought that was it… But then when we started shooting, it didn’t seem real. I was like, ‘Wow. Is this really Beverly Hills Cop? Are we here?'”

Putting it into words why we all love his character, Eddie said, “Axel is, so to speak, a regular guy. He’s a relatable guy. He’s the type of guy that you want to spend time with…Axel is, so to speak, a real guy that rises to the occasion. Axel is like Rocky and Indiana Jones.”

Melvin asked if he had any hesitation about returning to the role, to which Murphy admitted, “Yes, I did hesitate for 30 years. Not because I didn’t want to play the part. I hesitated until I found the right part, and then once the script was ready, I was all in.”

His daughter also cooperated fully by making a cameo appearance in the film.

Eddie said working with Bria was “amazing, amazing,” adding, “My other daughter was in Coming to America – my daughter Bella. It’s great to work with kids like LeBron is.” [James] Playing basketball with my son.”

When it came to dangerous stunt scenes on the set of “Beverly Hills 4,” Eddie, 63, reportedly named Morgan Freeman.

He told Robert, “In 10, 15 years, I’m going to be the new Morgan Freeman. That’s my plan for the future.”

So when asked to do physical labor on set, Eddie responded, “Yeah, just don’t ask me to do anything that you wouldn’t ask Morgan to do.”

He continued, “That’s true. Because I look the way I did back then, directors expect me to do stuff… They’re like, ‘Hey, can you jump off that…?’ And I’m like, ‘No, I don’t jump off.'”

And like Freeman, he’s not old, but he says, “Yeah, I’m old. I’m old. The one thing I don’t do that most people don’t is… I could count the number of drinks I’ve had in my life on two hands. I’m not a drinker. Everything else is the same as everyone else, I don’t get a lot of stress. I’ve always handled stressful things well.” [with] It’s the least stressful.”

So, could we see him return to the stand-up comedy stage?

“I’m going to be doing a live show that’s going to be a lot more than stand-up,” Murphy said. “It’s going to be a show that has a lot of elements: music, flashback storytelling, and stand-up. It’s going to be like a Broadway show, with everything that I do in the show, rather than just going onstage and doing stand-up.”
