According to Statista, retail and food service sales will reach $8.33 trillion in 2023, with most people preferring to shop at local grocery stores instead of online. According to research from McKinsey & Company, 66% of shoppers have looked for cheaper options in the past three months, choosing lower-priced stores, more affordable brands, or using coupons. I found out that there is.

A simple Google search for “easy recipes” yields 4.3 billion results. This shows that many home cooks are prioritizing simple, ingredient-saving recipes to save money and time.

easy peasy

Most home cooks have a mental library of dishes they can easily make without looking at a recipe. At the end of a busy day, when everyone is tired and short on time, these meals may be what parents turn to.

“My favorite easy recipes are ones that I know the whole family will love and that I can whip up quickly on a weeknight,” says Alex Caspero of the blog Delish Knowledge. “I call these ‘back pocket’ recipes because I don’t have to spend time looking for recipes and they’re forgiving enough to modify based on what I have on hand.”

“One-sheet bread” meals are trending online, with videos flooding popular social media apps like TikTok. Many of these one-piece meals include healthy ingredients such as salmon, chicken, broccoli, and other oven-baked delicious foods. These meals are whole dinners rather than single dishes, so they may contain more than five ingredients, but are still easy to prepare. The cooking method couldn’t be simpler. Just put the sheet pan in the oven and set the timer.

Easy recipes can also help parents teach young cooks at home. Most children can warm up a can of soup or make toast with supervision, and older children can help with the more technical parts of the meal. If parents let their children help prepare and serve simple meals, it won’t be long before the sous chef at home becomes the head chef. These skills will prepare them to become adults who can cook for themselves.

Less materials, less money

Simple recipes have the big advantage of being affordable and often result in budget-friendly meals. With the essentials in the pantry, cooks may never need to go to the store. The only canned food in your pantry or frozen food sitting in your freezer may come in handy when you want to make a quick meal at home. For example, if you have pasta in your cook’s pantry, some kind of protein in your freezer, and frozen or canned tomato sauce, spaghetti is an easy weeknight choice.

Some daring home cooks add canned vegetables to sauces or turn on an immersion blender to feed picky eaters something healthy.

Jacqueline Sanchez, who writes the My Plant Based Plan food blog, says: It’s flavorful, hearty, and easy to make with what you already have in your pantry or fridge. I also like it because you can try different spices and it comes out great every time. It’s my top choice over other pots because everything is done in his one pot and cleanup is easy. ”

Shoppers are saving money wherever possible. According to a McKinsey study, about 68% of shoppers have traded in items on their shelves or in their pantries. For low-income consumers, this number rises to 72%, but even 57% of high-income shoppers intentionally reduce their spending at the grocery store. Easy recipes cost less, so keeping things simple is a wise and frugal choice.

Even if the individual ingredients are more expensive, it’s worth paying extra for a dish that leaves enough for lunch the next day.

Meal preparation and landing

Most experienced home cooks agree that meal planning is a great way to save money at the grocery store. One key ingredient provides the benefits of two or three meals, making it more cost-effective.

The meal plan also has health benefits. According to Beaumont Health, menu organization helps people eat healthier, manage portions and reduce food waste. If shoppers plan their menu before going to the grocery store, they can shop according to that list, saving time and money. When cooks have a purpose for most of the ingredients in their refrigerators and pantries, they waste less food and save money.

Meal planners can also take advantage of store sales for the week. For example, if eggs are on sale that day, a cook can plan a frittata or other egg-centered dish for the week.

xoxoBella founder Bella Bucchiotti said: “Being Italian and a huge foodie, frittata is my favorite simple dish. It’s so easy to make and you can mix in whatever you want, so for me it really captures the essence of Italian cuisine. It’s definitely a staple in my kitchen!

Keep it simple, healthy, and organized. Experienced cooks know that this is a way to prepare great meals on a budget.
