GUWAHATI: A 100-bed yoga and naturopathic hospital will be set up in Dibrugarh, Assam.
Union Ayurveda Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the hospital and the Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIYN).
The hospital, which is part of CRIYN, will be the third of its kind in India and the first in eastern India.
The institute, to be built on around 15 acres of land with an investment of around Rs 100 crore, aims to bring about a scientifically valid and useful synergy between traditional knowledge of yoga and naturopathy and modern technological tools.
It aims to establish benchmark standards for education, preventive medicine and research in the fields of yoga and naturopathy.
The state-of-the-art institute will act as an international collaboration centre for global promotion and research of yoga and naturopathy, with a focus on fundamental aspects and scientific validation of traditional medical systems and practices through evidence-based research. The institute will also act as an incubation centre for start-ups in the yoga and wellness sector.
Sonowal said the Ayurveda movement has received a major boost under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“This (CRYIN) is further evidence for Assam and the entire Northeast to leverage its rich flora and fauna, drive the expansion of the Ayush sector and encourage peripheral growth in hospitality, patient care and medical tourism sectors,” the minister said.
He said the institute will also provide clinical training facilities to train yoga and naturopathic experts for capacity building programmes in areas like cardiac rehabilitation, diabetic rehabilitation and autoimmune diseases.
“Naturopathy and yoga are the two most important branches of Ayurveda which not only cure diseases but also rejuvenate the mind and body to face any challenge and lead a healthy lifestyle,” Sarma said in his address.
“With the opening of this hospital and research centre, the people of Assam as well as adjoining areas will benefit immensely,” he added.
