Dr. Uday Jani will speak about spirituality in medicine on Wednesday, June 12th from 4 to 6 p.m. in the parish hall of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 211 Mulberry St., Lewes.
Participants will learn about the importance of taking care of their body, mind and especially their spirit. “Modern medicine prides itself on being rational, evidence-based and secular. But for most of human history, societies have relied on religion to frame illness and its treatment. With the shift to incredible technology and advanced treatments, have we lost one of our most important tools for dealing with illness and inspiring hope?” says Jani, an integrative medicine physician. He believes a strong spiritual foundation is essential to surviving even the most challenging situations in life.
“Spirituality is defined as the aspect of humanity where humans seek meaning, purpose and transcendence,” Jani says. “Feeling connected to a higher power can take many forms, from prayer to walks in nature to serving others in your community. Spiritual experiences are very different for each person and require a willingness to dig deep and accept that your journey is your own.”
Jani blends the best of traditional, integrative and functional medicine at his Milton-based concierge clinic, Shore View Personalized Medical Care. He believes in treating the whole patient using an evidence-based, integrative approach to best promote each patient’s natural healing response.
Jani completed her residency at North Shore University Hospital in New York and then a two-year Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona, before continuing her training at the Functional Medicine Institute in Minneapolis, where she was Director of Integrative Medicine and Medical Director at Beebe Healthcare.
