March is National Nutrition Month, and proper nutrition is especially important for local families facing food insecurity. A local soup kitchen is offering a healthy menu thanks to donations from North Shore business owners.
At Brothers Table in Lynn, Chef Kia creates healthy treats thanks to donations.
“I have been involved with My Brother’s Table as a volunteer for years,” says Olivia Dolce, owner and founder of Rib Granola.
Olivia recognized the need for healthier breakfast options and founded her company, Rib Granola.
“One of the things that makes my granola unique is the 1:1 ratio of nuts to oats,” says Dolce. “That means it will have more protein and healthy fats, more fiber, and less sugar and carbohydrates.”
The company has grown from selling at local farmers markets to 100 stores and even selling on Amazon. And now, Olivia is giving back to the community by donating a batch of her granola to her My Brother’s Table.
“Everyone has the right to a really high level of nutrition and diversity, no matter where they come from,” Dolce said.
“We embrace everything and are grateful for everything that has been given to us,” said My Brothers Table board member Cassandra Ferguson.
The soup kitchen relies solely on donations. Cassandra Ferguson has been volunteering at My Brother’s Table since it opened in 1982.
“Since opening, we have served more than 3.5 million people,” Ferguson said. “We’re open seven days a week. You know, it doesn’t matter what the weather is.”
My Brother’s Table serves 400 to 900 meals per day and focuses on nutrition. Make sure your hot meals include starch, protein, and vegetables.
“No matter what is donated, Kia creates all kinds of amazing pieces,” Ferguson said.
The nutritious dishes like Chef Kia’s Yogurt Parfait Cups are something My Brother’s Table is proud to serve to the community, and we’re grateful for the businesses that continue to offer their support. Thank you very much.
“I’m excited to be able to do that,” Dolce said. “And as we grow, we look forward to growing that partnership and continuing to support something close to our backyard.”
