Tomatoes are a versatile fruit that are rich in vitamins C, K, potassium and folate and are often used in cooking. They are known for their antioxidant properties, especially lycopene, which may reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

However, many of us cook and eat it the wrong way and fail to take full advantage of its nutritional properties.

Ayurvedic experts reveal the correct way to consume tomatoes

According to Ayurvedic practice Dr. Manisha Mishra, tomatoes are acidic fruits. Therefore, you should avoid eating tomatoes every day, preferably cooked. However, if you want to eat it raw, it is better to remove the seeds. The doctor also told me to add red tomatoes to my diet instead of green ones. Finally, tomatoes can only benefit when cooked with healthy fats such as butter or ghee.

Dr. Manisha Mishra said that tomatoes are also good for the skin. Applying raw tomatoes on your skin will make your skin glow and reduce sunburn.

Health benefits of eating tomatoes

Rich in nutrients: Tomatoes are a good source of vitamins C, K, A, potassium, and folic acid.

Heart health: Tomatoes improve heart health by lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Cancer prevention: Lycopene and other antioxidants in tomatoes have been linked to a lower risk of several types of cancer, especially prostate, lung, and stomach cancer.

Skin health: The vitamins and antioxidants found in tomatoes can help protect your skin from sunburn and improve your overall skin health.

Bone health: Tomatoes contain vitamin K and calcium, which are important for maintaining bone health.
