Because human anger does not produce God’s righteousness. – James 1:20
The Bible contains many proverbs. No one ever says, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Still, it might be pretty helpful advice. The prophet Samuel took one look at Jesse’s eldest son and superficially determined that Eliab was God’s anointed, that is, the next king. But God told Samuel not to focus on his appearance or height. “For the Lord does not see as men see…For the Lord sees the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Especially when evaluating people, we need to be careful and not make hasty judgments.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for a book to read for the night on a shelf near your coffee table, breakfast area, or even on a bedside stand, here’s what we recommend. Judge a book by its cover. Please select the one that says “Bible”. Choosing a reading material with a title like this is a pretty sound decision. Sometimes judging something by its cover can do the trick. It depends a little on how far the cover portrays itself.
Three years ago, I was looking at the summer movie list, the “top 10 box office” movies of the most popular weekends in June. Something struck me about what society is clamoring to see in theaters. Well, at least there was something that stuck with me regarding the title of what people see. Perhaps we should avoid judging a book (or movie) by its cover (or title), but here are our top 10 lists: 1) The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It, 2) A Quiet Place Part II, 3) Cruella, 4) Spirit Untamed, 5) Raya and the Last Dragon, 6) Human Fury, 7) Spiral: From the Saws, 8) Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, 9) Godzilla vs. Kong, 10) Dream Horse.
Of course, these are just titles, and the words may not accurately describe the content. Judging from the original A Quiet Place, for example, the sequel on this list is probably about finding solitude, even though it’s one of the more enjoyable movie titles: Home Sweet Home Please consider that it is not themed.
All but number 10 on the list are new or remakes of the series. So viewers probably knew on some level what they were getting into. Therefore, the title may help determine some of the content. Maybe moviegoers were really hoping for future simultaneous releases like Godzilla vs. Cruella and The Last Horse of Infinity.
Viewed as a group, this list as a whole seemed to reflect society’s interest in the mysterious and hidden. necromantic, demonic, quiet, spirit, untouched, cruel, dragon, angry, spiral, demonic, infinite, [God]Zira and dreams. While you may not necessarily judge a book by its cover, we encourage you to rejoice in what this list represents. It’s that our culture is fascinated by the invisible spiritual realm. Society is willing to pay a lot of money to encounter spirits, dreams, demons, and demons. As Paul said, “Men of Athens, I believe that you are very pious in every way” (Acts 17:22).
The really good news is that we can help anyone interested in spirituality learn more about these top 10 topics. Great entertainment for less money. Keeping an extra Bible on your coffee table, shelf, or bedside stand will be the perfect follow-up to share with anyone who has seen these movies. Please join us as we read about the invisible but wonderful work of the Holy Spirit. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
Each of us has a soul and is therefore a spiritual human being. On this Lord’s Day, worship your Creator in spirit and truth instead of absorbing the false and angry spirituality of this world. For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ – 1 Thessalonians 1:9
