NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Center to treat on its behalf a plea seeking inclusion of Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy in Ayushman Bharat, the national public health insurance scheme. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora disposed of the public interest litigation (PIL) after asking the Union Ministry of Ayush for speedy decision on representation. Although the high court had previously dismissed the motion for non-prosecution, it granted the appellant’s motion to reinstate the complaint and asked the ministry to treat it as representation.
The court passed the order after perusing the affidavit filed by the Ayush Ministry. The affidavit said it was coordinating with the health ministry to take steps to incorporate India’s healthcare system into the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).

The High Court had last year issued notices to the ministries of health and family welfare, Ayush, finance and home affairs and the Delhi government, asking them to file affidavits in rebuttal to the PIL by petitioner advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay. Ta.
The petition sought inclusion of Ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy in PM-JAY, also known as Ayushman Bharat, to ensure the right to health of the people.
Launched in 2018, Ayushman Bharat has two major components: PM-JAY and Health and Wellness Centers.
PM-JAY provides cashless health cover of Rs 500,000 per below poverty line (BPL) family every year.
The petition demanded that the scheme be implemented in all states and that the Indian healthcare system be covered under the scheme.
Such inclusion has made it possible for a significant portion of the country’s population to avail affordable and affordable medical benefits in case of several serious diseases without any harm and in the field of Ayurveda. Jobs will be provided to thousands of people, the report said.
“While PM-JAY or Ayushman Bharat mainly covers and is limited to allopathic hospitals and clinics, India We boast of various indigenous medical systems such as yoga, naturopathy, Siddha, Unani and homeopathy, which are highly effective in addressing our current medical needs.”
India’s cultural, intellectual knowledge and scientific heritage are being systematically eroded due to various policies launched by foreign rulers and colonial-minded individuals, the report said.
“In addition to this, these foreigners, motivated by a profit-oriented approach, have unwisely implemented many laws and programs during our country’s independence era, which have slowly undermined our rich heritage and history.” said the petition.
