“Art has long been recognized as a powerful medium for self-expression, self-reflection and communication, and the diverse artworks on our walls spark dialogue and offer visitors the opportunity to engage in open conversations about mental health,” said Eva Buttacavoli, executive director of Contemporary Dayton. “In this environment, the visual language of art builds bridges, allowing individuals to express and share emotions, foster empathy and deepen understanding of the complex issues surrounding mental health.”
According to the announcement, each session will begin with a guided session focused on a particular work of art or architecture, where participants are encouraged to observe and contemplate colors, shapes and emotions, and bring that sense of mindfulness into their wellness session.
“By weaving discussions about health into art experiences, we can not only deepen understanding of the art, but also create a safe space for meaningful conversations that contribute to breaking down the stigma surrounding these important aspects of human existence,” Buttacavoli said.
