Michelin-starred chef and pro cycling team nutritionist Alan Murchison has released his latest cookbook, The Cycling Chef: On the Go. Published by Bloomsbury Sports, the hardback book features a collection of portable, easy-to-prepare recipes designed to help cyclists fuel, refuel and recover whilst on the bike.
With over 25 years’ experience working in top restaurants around the world, Murchison aims to provide cyclists with healthier, more flavoursome alternatives to processed energy bars, sugary drinks and takeaway foods. The book features a variety of savoury and sweet on-the-go snacks designed to refuel and be easy to eat whilst cycling, including Pressed Parmesan and Rosemary Polenta, Date and Macadamia ‘Snickerish’ Bars and Cherry Bakewell Balls.

Cycling Chef: On the Go also features sections dedicated to pre- and post-ride meals, as well as quick snacks to make on the go. Pre-ride ‘fuel-booster’ dishes such as carb-packed corn cakes and ‘full English’ breakfast frittata offer easy-to-digest energy to kick-start your ride. Post-ride refuelling suggestions include White Chocolate Miso Blonde Cake and Chocolate Cardamom Protein Muffin, providing protein-rich recovery options to help cyclists avoid rummaging through the fridge after a hard day in the saddle.
A respected cyclist himself, Murchison has road-tested his recipes and cooked for elite cyclists, and the book’s thoughtful meals and snacks are accompanied by stylish photography, as well as a section offering advice, information and anecdotes, flavored with the author’s signature wit and wisdom.
The Cycling Chef: On the Go is Murchison’s third cookbook, following the success of his bestselling recipe books for cyclists, The Cycling Chef: Recipes for Performance and Pleasure and The Cycling Chef: Recipes for Getting Lean and Fuelling the Machine. This new book is a hardback and runs 246 pages.
