Many couples struggle to prioritize their health and wellbeing and often find it difficult to establish and maintain a regular exercise routine. However, research shows that couples who exercise together You might be more successful.
A recent study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found that on days when participants exercised with their partner, they reported more positive feelings during exercise, more daily positive feelings, and more relationship satisfaction than on days when they exercised alone.
These findings highlight the importance of couples prioritizing health and fitness, and as more partners seek comprehensive wellness solutions, demand for programs like CoupleyFit is likely to grow.
Founded by husband and wife team DeAnna and Kurt Mangum, CoupleyFit is at the forefront of the couples-focused wellness movement, offering a “whole person” approach that integrates physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
Overcoming personal health challenges
De Anna, President of CoupleyFit and a certified nutrition and health consultant and transformation specialist, and Kurt, Director of Strategy and Business Partnerships at the International Sports Science Association (ISSA), combined their expertise and personal experience to develop a winning formula.
The Mangums understand the unique challenges their clients face because they’ve had to overcome them themselves. De Ana grew up in a household with two former college athletes, and health and wellness were deeply ingrained in the family fabric, but her journey took an unexpected turn when she was thrown a “curve ball” in the form of gluten sensitivity during her sophomore year of college, she said.
“Suddenly, I couldn’t eat the foods I once loved,” she says. “I was determined not to let this setback get me down, so I began researching nutrition and health.”
Meanwhile, Kurt faced health issues growing up in the Midwest, battling being overweight due to eating habits and a “clean plate” mentality. Through dedication and perseverance, he transformed into an All-American linebacker who was scouted by the University of Washington Huskies.
“We realized the impact we could have on others by working out together, preparing nutritious meals, and prioritizing rest and hydration,” says De Ana Mangum, “Employees at work started to take notice and began approaching us for weight loss and health guidance. And thus, CoupleyFit was born.”

SWAN Approach
In a world full of fad diets and extreme workouts, the Mangums believe in making healthy living simple and attainable for couples. By striving to get 1% better every day, one step at a time, they’ve developed a system to help their clients stay on the right path.
The Mangums have trademarked the SWAN Approach (Sleep, Hydration, Activity, Nutrition), designed to make healthy living simple and achievable for couples. By focusing on quality sleep, proper hydration, enjoyable exercise and nutritious food choices, the Mangums have seen incredible transformations in their clients.
One shocking testimonial comes from a couple who lost over 70 pounds together, one of whom saw his A1C drop and his diabetes diagnosis improve, while the other experienced significant improvement in his battle with depression.
“They started with small things like walking to the mailbox, choosing water over sugary drinks and making healthier choices when eating out,” says Mangum. “As they began to see progress, their confidence grew and they began to make more positive changes. They invested in personal trainers, cooked nutritious meals at home as a family, felt free to take rest days when needed and even turned to water delivery services to make sure they stayed hydrated.”

While his clients’ journeys haven’t been without challenges, Mangum emphasizes that their unwavering dedication to each other and their health has helped them overcome obstacles.
“They learned to listen to their bodies, prioritize self-care, and celebrate small victories along the way,” she says.
Beyond the physical
As the Mangums continued to work with their clients, they realized the importance of wellness integration.
“The lack of alignment in their mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health took a toll on our clients when they faced weight gain, depression and a return to old unhealthy habits, leaving them feeling lost and overwhelmed,” Mangum says.
She says this led to an “epiphany” and the realisation that a piecemeal approach to health was not enough and a new direction was needed that embraced the whole person.
Together, they embarked on a journey to uncover the root causes of their clients’ struggles. Through a process of introspection and self-discovery, they unraveled the web of negative patterns and beliefs that were holding them back and began to lay the foundation for new, healthier ways of living.
“Our clients began to experience profound changes within themselves,” says Mangum. “They discovered a renewed sense of strength and resilience as they shed old, harmful habits and embraced new, healthier ways of living.”
Promoting “generational health”‘
CoupleyFit emphasizes the importance of parents setting an example to support “intergenerational health” – the concept that genetics as well as family history influence health and have an impact on future generations.
“In the business world, they often say, ‘change starts from the top down,’ and the same is true when it comes to intergenerational health promotion,” Mangum says. “When parents take the lead in making healthy lifestyle changes, it sets a powerful example for their children to follow.”
Mangum said she and Kurt have seen firsthand the impact parents can have on their children’s health.
“When parents clearly communicate goals, involve their children and invest in their personal development, they can create a ripple effect of positive change that benefits the entire family,” she says.
