The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine warns against the use of herbal remedies, warning that some are not safe to consume.
The number of coronavirus cases in the UK surpassed 100 this week, sparking panic over the spread of the disease.
Health experts highlight several preventive measures available to the public, including regular hand washing and sneezing into a tissue.
However, it appears many people are turning to other options to protect themselves from the coronavirus.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine warns against using these alternative therapies and even warns that some may not be safe to consume.
“Some people are using the drug to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection or to treat the 2019 coronavirus disease, now called COVID-19. I’m looking for alternative treatments.
“These purported treatments include herbal remedies and teas.
“There is no scientific evidence that these alternative treatments can prevent or treat the disease caused by this virus. In fact, some of them may not be safe to consume.”
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has reiterated that herbal remedies are not recommended to protect yourself.
“The following measures are ineffective against COVID-19 infection and may be harmful: smoking, taking traditional Chinese medicine, wearing multiple masks, and taking self-medication such as antibiotics.” added.
According to Dr. Babak Ashrafi from Zava, the best way to avoid the virus is to wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
Speaking to Mirror Online, he said: “The main advice is to wash your hands with soap and water. That’s the best way to get rid of bacteria. Hand sanitisers aren’t very effective, but especially if you’ve been out in public, nothing It’s better than nothing.”
