Emporia State University (ESU) in the US has broken ground on a new nursing and student wellness building.
This is the first time a new academic facility has been built on a university campus in the past 40 years.
“The cost of this building should be viewed as an investment, not a price tag,” said Brent Thomas, ESU’s academic affairs professor and vice president.
“This is an important investment in our community. This is an important investment in our region. This is an important investment in our academic programs and it is also an important investment in our university. But most importantly, this is a continued demonstration of the investment ESU is making in its students.”
The 32,000 square meter facility is designed to enhance nursing students’ academic experience and promote student health.
The new building will house a simulation hospital suite with training labs and simulation rooms.

These facilities provide adult care, obstetrics, emergency care, and pediatric care.
In addition, the building will house multiple classrooms, a dynamic learning commons, and conference rooms.
A dedicated Student Success Center is also part of the design, all aimed at supporting students throughout their academic journey.
Completion of this first phase is said to be critical to moving the nursing program to the main campus.
The second phase of the project will focus on developing new clinical areas for ESU Student Wellness.
This department is responsible for providing medical and counseling services to registered students of the University.
The Nursing Student Wellness Building is scheduled to open in late 2025.
