A new analysis looked at how states’ mental health data compares across the nation, and found that Wisconsin Ranked high National average.
This study Leafwelllooked at a range of health indicators for each state, including levels of frequent mental distress, lack of physical activity, number of days with poor mental health, life expectancy, opportunities for exercise and median household income. An overall health score for each state was calculated out of 100, and a ranking was created based on these key health indicators.
Wisconsin The total score was calculated 61.8Wisconsin ranks 19th nationally. Wisconsin’s median annual income is $67,200, 2.6% lower than the U.S. average, but life expectancy is nearly a year higher at 79 years. People in the state report having slightly more bad mental days than the general American population, five days per month, but only 13% of the state experiences frequent mental distress. With 84% of the state’s population having access to exercise opportunities, Wisconsin has a relatively high physical activity rate of 80%, compared to the national average of 81%.
Commenting on the study, Mitchell L. Doucette, PhD, MSc, Leafwell’s Director of Research, said, “As we delve deeper into the complexities of Wisconsin’s health indicators, it becomes clear that factors such as access to physical activity opportunities, median household income and mental health resources play a critical role in shaping our community’s well-being.”
“By highlighting the qualities of Wisconsin and other states in our rankings, we aim to inspire conversations and efforts that prioritize comprehensive approaches to improving the quality of life for residents across the country.”
