The City of Jasper and community wellness center partners have announced a significant increase in fundraising efforts for the “Better Together” Capital Campaign.
The Brown family and Meyer Distributing and Logistics have jointly committed $4 million to construct the facility.
The City of Jasper and the Tri-County YMCA are partnering on a facility located on 10 acres between Parkland and Jasper High School. The city and Greater Jasper Unified Schools finalized the purchase at last week’s school board and common council meeting.
“Community Wellness and Early Childhood Learning Centers provide important health, welfare, and child care/educational benefits to our employees and their families that impact the entire community,” said Mayer Distributing & Logistics. CEO Jeff Brown said. “We are very pleased to work with other key stakeholders to help ensure this project receives the funding it needs.”
The proposed facility would include a fitness center, four full-court gyms, an indoor aquatic center, an indoor elevated walking track, multiple group exercise studios, and multiple community rooms including a community kitchen. An early learning center is in the planning stages as a future project. Early estimates put the facility’s construction cost at approximately $37 million.
“On behalf of the City of Jasper and all of the tri-county YMCA leadership, we are extremely grateful for the generous support from the Brown family and Meyer Distributing,” said Mayor Dean Vonderheide. “The support we continue to receive from community leaders across the region is testament to the importance of this project.”
Mike Steph, CEO of the Tri-County YMCA, said the addition of this gift “builds a better relationship.”
Capital Campaign has secured more than $10 million in funding to date. Additional information about the campaign and other funding sources will be provided by early summer.
