CLEVELAND — Cleveland Clinic has developed an official wellness app in collaboration with FitNow Inc. that features health/diet tips and food and fitness tracking.
Like other health apps, users can view personalized information by answering a variety of questions about their current health and fitness habits, goals, etc. What sets this app apart is that it also includes input from health experts at the Cleveland Clinic, which was recently ranked the second best hospital in the world for the sixth consecutive year.
“We know that health is about more than just weight, and our goal with the Cleveland Clinic Diet App is to go beyond the number on the scale and address each individual’s health status and goals,” Julia Zumpano, registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Human Nutrition, said in a press release. “We aim to help individuals overcome barriers and make lasting improvements to their health. We take into account each individual’s needs and preferences to not only look good, but above all, feel good.”
App users will also have access to courses taught by experts in a range of fields, including heart health, weight management and mental health.
The food tracker includes two plans: one that focuses on energy and vitality levels, and another that focuses on improving heart health.
Eric Puidokas, FitNow’s managing director and chief product officer, said the company is excited to pair Cleveland Clinic experts with its “behavior change program.”
“This winning combination guides users every step of the way as they work toward their individual health goals,” Puidokas said in the release.
Zumpano said in a release that one of the biggest health challenges people face is sticking to their goals. The app features plans from a variety of health experts, including:
- “Relatable, easy-to-understand content from health and medical writers for every stage of your health journey.”
- Food search and recommendation engine with billions of food entries
- AI-powered voice-to-text recognition voice log
- Image logging with proprietary machine learning algorithms that detect individual foods from whole meal images
- High Speed Barcode Scanning and Recognition Software
The app is available on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store. There’s a seven-day free trial, but to get the full functionality of the app, it will cost you $179.99 per year or $49.99 per month.
