Cleveland Clinic launches its own health and diet app

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland Clinic and diet app developer FitNow, Inc. have teamed up to launch the Cleveland Clinic Diet App.

The app combines advanced AI tools for tracking your food and fitness activities with personalized health and diet advice.

Users can record what they eat by scanning nutrition labels, taking photos or speaking into the app.

According to its developers, the app features a food search and recommendation engine with billions of food entries and an easy-to-use food logging feature, powered by cutting-edge AI-powered image and voice recognition technology.

The app allows users to choose one of two tracks aimed at either general health or heart health. The goal of the app is to provide guided support from Cleveland Clinic health experts to help users make lasting changes in their lifestyle and eating habits to achieve better health and well-being, according to a news release from the clinic.

“We know that health is about more than just weight, and our goal with the Cleveland Clinic Diet App is to go beyond the number on the scale and address each individual’s health status and goals,” said Julia Zumpano, a registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Human Nutrition, who helped design the app’s program.

“We aim to support individuals to overcome barriers and make lasting improvements to their health. We take into account their personal needs and preferences to help them not only look their best, but above all, feel their best.”

Additionally, the app offers a curated set of courses taught by experts in nutrition, endocrinology, metabolism, heart health, digestive health, weight management, and mental health.

However, this comes at a cost: the app is available for a 7-day free trial on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, but after the trial period it costs $49.99 per month or $179.99 per year.

Medical Research

FitNow is an established mobile health and wellness app development company, makers of the popular weight loss app, Lose It!

“We’re excited to combine Cleveland Clinic’s expert experience and content with our proven behavior change platform,” said Eric Puidokas, managing director and chief product officer at FitNow. “This winning combination ensures users are guided every step of the way as they work toward their personal health goals.”

The clinic claims that its plans are created by health experts and are free of bias, “fads” or strict nutritional plans. Instead, it claims to provide easy-to-understand content from health and medical writers to help users achieve and maintain their health goals along their health journey.

“For most people, one of the biggest challenges is figuring out how to not only manage but maintain their weight, nutrition and health goals,” says Zumpano. “We know that getting healthy involves a lot of factors, so our goal with this app is to guide users step-by-step through the process.”
