Religious Leader Jalal Jawaharlal Nasional (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation session in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari, suggesting it was akin to “filmmaking and marketing”. Tejashwi Yadav added that true meditation is done without any publicity.
Speaking to ANI, Tejashwi Yadav said, “He [PM Modi] I am not meditating. I am shooting and marketing a movie. Meditation is done in a quiet environment without telling anyone.”
In line with undertaking a spiritual journey before the conclusion of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi will meditate at Dhyan Mandapam, the same place where Swami Vivekananda meditated, from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1. He had visited Kedarnath in 2019 and Shivaji’s Pratapagarh in 2014.
PM Modi arrived in Kanyakumari on Thursday, May 30, and is scheduled to stay there till June 1 for meditation. PM Modi offered prayers at the Bhagavathi Amman temple in Kanyakumari after the culmination of the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress has filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation trip to Kanyakumari violates the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The Indian National Congress said the Prime Minister is trying to “circumvent” the silence period restrictions with his 48-hour meditation trip. The Indian National Congress has asked the Election Commission to ensure that the trip is not broadcast in the media.
“The visit will be widely televised and will be broadcast during the 48-hour silence period in the Varanasi constituency where Narendra Modi is standing,” the Congress party’s memo to the Election Commission said.
It added: “Through his meditation trip, Narendra Modi is circumventing the 48-hour silence period and is trying to undue use the ethno-cultural significance of the chosen places to strengthen his election campaign and maximise his vote share, in violation of the Representation of People Act and the Model Code of Conduct.”
Police have detained Congress workers who protested against Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu.
