World Malaria Day is observed on April 25 every year, and the theme for 2019 is “Zero Malaria Starts with Me.” According to the World Health Organization’s Global Malaria Report, this deadly febrile disease claimed more than 400,000 lives between 2017 and 2018.
Common in many parts of India, it is a severe type of fever caused by the bite of the Anopheles mosquito. A mosquito bite infects the body with parasites that enter the bloodstream, where red blood cells multiply and spread the infection, causing a fever within 72 hours.
Over the past decade, the Indian government has made significant efforts to contain malaria fever and has made significant progress in reducing the number of cases.
Typical symptoms of malaria include high fever, headache, nausea and vomiting, chills, sweating, body aches, and severe anemia. In severe cases, fever can cause convulsions and affect liver, kidney, lung, and brain function.
Medications are available to treat malaria, and the fever usually subsides within 5 days. However, the road to recovery is difficult because malaria causes severe fatigue and weakened immunity. While doctors recommend dietary supplements to regain your energy, you can also find some simple treatments recommended by Ayurveda to help you recover faster.
