The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Cigna Healthcare have partnered to open the first of two new wellness fitness centers as part of a pilot program to help CTA employees reach their fitness goals. “We are pleased to offer our employees these mini fitness centers to give them the opportunity to work on their health and fitness goals,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter Jr. “Employee health is so important and we appreciate Cigna Healthcare helping us provide the tools that allow employees to carve out time for health and wellness.” CTA University, located at 4829 N. Lipps Avenue, is the first facility with this capability and is where CTA will provide training for new and existing employees. Another wellness fitness center is scheduled to open in the Chicago Avenue Garage. “The establishment of these wellness fitness centers aligns well with our mission to improve the health and vitality of the people we serve, and we are pleased to partner on a program that provides transit agency employees with a convenient way to get more active,” said Lisa Buckley, Midwest general manager for Cigna Healthcare. The wellness fitness centers will be available exclusively to CTA employees. The spaces will be equipped with workout equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, TRX suspension trainers and yoga mats. They will also have a strength training system that includes medicine balls, resistance bands, exercise balls and foam rollers. The equipment will provide individuals with the opportunity to incorporate training into their already busy schedules.
