LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Local celebrities got all worked up for charity on Saturday.
Local nonprofit 24 Reasons hosted the inaugural Be the Reason Celebrity Basketball Game at Eastern High School, bringing together celebrities, community leaders and advocates to raise awareness and funds for mental health and suicide prevention programs.
Attendees at the bout included NBA star D’Angelo Russell, UFC fighter Terrance McKinney, country artist JD Shelburne and University of Louisville men’s basketball star Peyton Siva.
“I wanted to create an event that would combine my passions, which is basketball and mental health, and create an event for the community that shows that both are important,” said Trey Moses, founder of 24 Reasons. “I want to bring people together, not just in my own life, but in the community at large.”
All proceeds from the game will go towards funding youth suicide awareness and prevention programs.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 50,000 people will commit suicide in the United States in 2021, which equates to one death every 11 minutes.
