CLAYTON COUNTY — Clayton County Public Schools’ Student Services and Strategic Improvement department recently launched its Wellness Wednesday summer community activities.
The first event will be held at North Clayton High School on June 12, with the next events at Eddie White Middle School Academy on June 26 and Jonesboro Middle School on July 10. Both events will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.
Spearheaded by CCPS Community Schools teams and social workers from the Student Services department, and through partnerships with Helping Hands Ending Hunger and the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the June 12 event delivered more than 125 cars and more than 300 families and households the equivalent of more than 16,000 pounds of various foods.
To fulfill its mission of addressing food insecurity, Wellness Wednesday opened an outdoor grocery store stocked with a variety of foods, including fresh meats, fruits and a variety of vegetables.
Fresh food and beverages were also provided, catering to the needs of families, local residents, staff and other stakeholders in the North Clayton area and surrounding areas.
The Wellness Wednesday event also offered a variety of services.
Families can make appointments for vaccinations, health screenings or health screenings at the on-site school-based health clinic.
Additionally, Housing Plus Inc. and Georgia Family Community Credit Union provided valuable resources to address affordable housing and financial resource needs.
